“ Pompeii is an American indie rock band formed in Austin, Texas in 2004. The band is best known for their melodic and ambient rock sound, which features the addition of a cello. Pompeii's style is noted as having a saturated ambient, elegant sound. The band has been compared to Death Cab For Cutie and Sigur Rós, more specifically the similarities between singer Dean Stafford’s vocals and Ben Gibbard’s. Pompeii has received worldwide attention and critical acclaim from such outlets as American Songwriter Magazine, Filter, NPR, Alternative Press, Apple Inc. and MTV.History
Childhood friends Dean Stafford and Rob Davidson grew up playing music together in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 2002, they moved to Austin, Texas to attend St. Edward's University where they met current Pompeii tour manager Cody Coppin. The three formed a band and played music together under the name Highland Drive, but never released an album. In 2004 while at a job interview, Stafford met bassist Shane Stevens. The two started a new project with Davidson and Stafford's girlfriend at the time, cellist Caitlin Bailey.
